BERG LARSEN
|
|
|
Berg Larsen Vintage “Scoopbill” Long Table model 95/2/M (1970’s?). Reworked into a size 112-115. Reworked for my own personal use by Theo Wanne himself in the mid- to late 1990’s, when Theo Wanne was living outside of Philadelphia and was just getting into “refacing” mouthpieces. In very good shape, bite plate intact. Plays with a lot of power. $650.00 |
Newer model Berg Larsen Metal Tenor Sax mouthpiece (not vintage) 120/1/M. This equates to a size 9. Huge Sound! Great for Funk and Rock. Brand new these are priced on WW&BW at about $355. Sold here much less expensively at $185. Comes with Berg Ligature and Cap. Very good original condition; some use but plays great. |
Berg Larsen (M), #130/1/SMS Excellent condition; comes with original ligature. The term 'SMS ' or 'M' indicates the choice of facing. The SMS, or French facing is usually shorter with a steeper curve. The 'M' or American facing is slightly longer with a flatter type curve. This model has the horizontal denim markings (so does the #110/1 we have), and is in that extreme wide open 130 facing that I don’t believe is being manufactured anymore! At least it is not listed on the Woodwind Brasswind site; the facings going only up to #120. Sax stars such as Lenny Picket of Tower of Power, and SNL fame employ a 130 facing (his is a 130/0 facing). Plus with the “1” baffle, (the second highest table) this really sings! Tested by us, this mouthpiece sounds great! Hard to find, priced well at $275 |
SOLD
Berg Larsen Vintage “Scoopbill” model, 95/2/M (1970’s?) (updated 4/29/2019) “Bergs with a very pronounced upward scoop right behind the bite-plate are called ‘Scoop Bill’ Bergs. These all have a straight drop off at the back of the baffle. These did not change in design very much from the early 1950s through the 1980s. The only real change was the machinery used to make the facings during the above mentioned manufacturing plant change.” (From Theo Wanne’s Mouthpiece Museum- https://theowanne.com/knowledge/mouthpiece-museum/berg-larsen-mouthpieces/ Unlike the Duckbill, this is the Scoopbill, which is latter in the chronology, From Theo Wanne’s Mouthpiece Museum-https://theowanne.com/knowledge/mouthpiece-museum/berg-larsen-mouthpieces/: “During the period of the ‘Duck Bill’ vintage Berg Larsen mouthpieces the factory moved, and all the tooling used to make them changed as well. The clearest way to delineate beween these two major phases in Berg Larsen history is to look at the machine marks left on the table by the machines used to make the facings. The older mouthpieces had a denim look to the table which was created by a stone grinding wheel. The later mouthpieces had arced machine marks going from side to side created by a milling machine.” This Berg does have the Vertical “Denim” machining marks on the table, the latter ones have the Horizontal Denim marks. This has the Horizontal Denim marks. The “0” indicates the designation for the highest and therefore brightest sounding baffle, “3” a lower baffle, and somewhat darker, as such. This is a “2”, a medium baffle. Some discoloration on the table, but no damage at all to this one. With original ligature. In Good condition, no bite marks on bite plate. Less open than the 105/2 we have featured. Like a 6* $350 |
SOLD
Berg Larsen “Vintage” Duck Bill Long Table model, 90/0/M, (Probably from the 1960’s) (updated 4/29/2019) Good shape with no nicks or dings on tip or rails. Bite plate has a big mark on the right hand side. Has the straight and not the Slant signature for the Berg Larsen Logo. Also, has a long table and long overall length, but not quite as long as the “Very Vintage” model listed above. So this is at the later end of the run of the “Vintage” Duck Bill Bergs. Duck Bill Bergs have a very mild upward slope right behind the bite-plate. These are also often called 'Bullet Chamber' mouthpieces because of the V shaped drop off at the back of the baffle that looks like the tip of a bullet. They also have the vintage denim look machine marks on the table. From Theo Wanne’s Mouthpiece Museum-https://theowanne.com/knowledge/mouthpiece-museum/berg-larsen-mouthpieces/ “During the period of the ‘Duck Bill’ vintage Berg Larsen mouthpieces the factory moved, and all the tooling used to make them changed as well. The later mouthpieces had arced machine marks going from side to side created by a milling machine.” This Berg does have the Vertical “Denim” machining marks on the table, the latter ones have the Horizontal Denim marks. With original Bronze old fashioned ligature and matching Bronze colored Cap, in good shape. Worth it! $450 |

SOLD Retro Revival “Super D” 6* (.95 Tip) Like new. Priced normally at $575, Priced here for $325. Great deal! From the Website: https://retro-revival.com/products/super-d “ Our "Super D" Tenor Sax model is a stunning replica of an early 1950’s Otto Link “Double Band ” Super Tone Master, once played by Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis, Johnny Griffin, Dex, Michael Brecker and many others back in the day. This rare gem had a short production run, Otto Link changed to a higher baffle profile from the previous tubby “Tone Master” to produce the so called “Double Ring” model. This newer design produced the classic modern “Link” sound, characterized by a brighter top end and faster response, but still maintaining a rich mid and low range due to it’s slightly deeper chamber. This Model is an early STM and is a No USA, Small Font copy of the Early Links…” |
