Buescher Straight Soprano, #190259 (later 1925)
Excellent Silver plate with Silver Plated Keys, professionally polished finish. This came to us having been repadded by Witicha Band Instrument Co in the last couple of years with all new pads, felts, corks. The sax was not used a whole lot and has been serviced in our shop. Original case with handle hanging on. No Front F key, but range is to high F. $1950 |
The Buescher “True Tone” Straight Soprano, keyed in C, #140525 (1923). Silver Plate! Range to high Eb.
Built in the mid 1920’s, this was the at the height of the saxophone craze, where folks still liked to gather in their parlors to make music themselves after supper, and sheet music, celebrating the new popular songs of the day, came only in the key of C; so the major musical instrument manufacturing companies, most centered in Elkhart, Indiana, especially Conn and Buescher, (which by the way came a little earlier into the game than did Selmer, Martin, or King), developed a line of Saxophones pitched in the key of C (this idea had been around for a while), including the C Melody but also an octave higher soprano pitched in C. This way one could learn how to play the saxophone (easily done), and not need to transpose! The one we have here is in the original silver plate, comes in the original case and is in need of an overhaul and polishing! It has the original White, Kid-Goat (?) skin pads, and sort of plays a little, but needs all new pads. Does have the famous Alternate Eb mechanism of this era in the right hand. Fully repadded and polished silver plate. $1700. Vintage Collector’s item! |

Conn Straight Soprano, keyed in C, #128012 (1924).
The one we have here is in the original silver plate, has the rolled tone holes, comes in the original case and is in need of an overhaul and polishing! Was repadded at some point, has old brown pads, no resos, and sort of plays a little, but needs a new pad job. Does have the famous Alternate Eb mechanism of this era in the right hand. $1250 as is, $1800 with repad and polish. Vintage Collector’s item! |
Vintage Conn Gold-Plated Straight Soprano Saxophone pitched in the key of C. Serial #117226 (1923)
Rare example of an historical Saxophone. Polished Gold plate, almost completely intact, with all new high quality leather pads. There are enough of these straight Conn and Buescher silver sopranos pitched in Bb around. But to have one that is for one pitched in the key of C (it is shorter than the Bb version), and then to have it a marvelous Gold plate, with some nice art deco engraving at the bottom; well, this makes it super collectible, and it plays great to boot! Original case in decent shape. Has the original mouthpiece. $1800 |

Yamaha YAS-62 “Early Decal”/”Painted Logo” model Soprano saxophone, #1278 (Straight neck) These have grown to be regarded as vintage, highly valued, early manufactured YSS-62 models (late 1970’s, we think; just think how early this one is: #1278!). We have one or two Early Decal/”Painted Logo” Altos and they really play with a lot of depth, resonance, and Zing! Early Decal means that the logo is not engraved on the bell but “painted” on. Some scratches + couple of spots of lacquer loss, but repadded by us with all new pads and plays great! Why are these so valued? The very early Yamaha pro and intermediate models had great metal, great brass alloy, and so, with everything else, this sax really sings! Some compare them now to the Selmer Mark 6. Have a similar Early Decal 52 and 62 alto on the site now. Vintage and collectible! People love the early 62 sopranos anyway. A little wear, scratches hear and there, but overall a clean sax, original lacquer of course. Priced very fairly at $3250. |
